Orway IQ is a joint venture company established by Orway Mineral Consultants (OMC) and Process IQ Pty Ltd. The joint venture draws on the expertise of OMC with regards to comminution design, modelling and optimisation and Process IQ’s expertise in process control, automation and process instrumentation. The JV provides clients within the minerals processing industry with a consulting service, MillROC – Milling Remote Optimisation Consulting and Coaching – which applies process models and analysis to real-time plant data, the findings of which are communicated to the client to facilitate continual improvement.
Chief Executive Officer
Marnu brings to the position a wealth of knowledge and an array of experiences in the mining industry on a national and global level.
His expertise in technology, global strategy and leadership combined with his strong operational experience in the mining industry, make him ideally suited to accelerate our remote optimisation consulting solution (MillROC) to the mineral processing industry.
Marnu joins us from Sibanye-Stillwater’s Gold Segment where he held the position of Vice President Metallurgy and Surface operations.

Executive Director & Technical Consultant
Fred is the Principal Metallurgist & Director for Orway Mineral Consultants and has thirty years of experience in the mining industry, including:
18 years production management experience in the gold industry and commissioning, flowsheet development and study experience.
Fred’s current focus is on comminution circuit design, optimisation and associated testwork. In his current position, he provides primary technical expertise in comminution (crushing, scrubbing, milling, HPGR etc) gold processing (incl gold sulphide flotation, bio-hydrometallurgy. leach and carbon circuits)
Chairman of the Board
Pieter is the Business Director for Process IQ. He completed his bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering and two post-graduate degrees in metallurgy and technology management at the University of Pretoria.
Pieter successfully started several companies in Australia including Process IQ. Pieter has been instrumental in the forming this joint venture between Process IQ and Orway Minerals Consultants. Since immigrating to Australia at the turn of the century, Pieter have introduced new technologies in the mining industry, the latest being the application of the IIoT in innovative ways.
He is an active member of the AusIMM for the past 17 years and on the committee for the AusIMM Metallurgical Society (MetSoc).
Brian is a Principal Metallurgist & Managing Director of Orway Mineral Consultants and has over 25 years experience in the mineral processing industry, including:
- 20 years as a consultant specialising in comminution and gold metallurgy
- 5 years in gold plant operations, achieving Mill Superintendent Level responsibility
He is recognised as one of the world’s leading experts in comminution circuit design and optimisation. In his current position, he provides specialist consulting services in flowsheet design, process engineering, gold technologies and plant optimisation, managing an international team of consultants in the Perth and Toronto offices.
DANIEL VAN DER SPUY
Daniel has 20 years’ experience in advanced measurement, control and optimisation of minerals processing plants. He studied and worked in three different continents. After completing his Batchelor’s in Electronic Engineering at the University of Pretoria, he went on to do his Master’s in Control Systems at Stanford University in the USA.
Daniel is co-founder of Process IQ, responsible for business growth, supplying and supporting technical solutions and evaluating and developing new solutions. Process IQ has been growing strongly in all areas over the last 9 years, including turnover, clientele and product range.
Before moving to Australia in 2006, Daniel worked in the Measurement and Control division of Mintek in South Africa, where he was involved in both developing and deploying technology worldwide.
Daniel has a strong aptitude for apply technology to practical problems and a keen interest in state-of-the art technologies like Industry 4.0, IoT and Artificial Intelligence.
